Embroidered white silk satin, with embroidery in silk and metallic thread. The figures are accented with seed pearls.
Object Description
Chinese Buddhist priest's mantle of embroidered white satin. The decoration is 1000 Buddhas type with a panelled design. Each panel is filled with a deity. The figures are accented with seed pearls. There are twenty-one rows of Buddhas, with four Buddha panels and one decorative panel in each column. The border is composed of floral scrolls and Buddha figures (three on the right and left sides, and seven on the top and the bottom). The embroidered design is executed in silk and metallic thread, and is mainly in pink, orange and blue tones. The object is of exceptional quality, and is an important work.
