Object Description
Meiji period color woodblock triptych depicting the Emperor and Empress on a bridge above female musicians. Two shirabyoshi dancers are on the stage wearing 'twelve layer' kimono and dancing to the accompanyment of Heian period court music, performed by female musicians. The musicians face toward the dancers with their backs turned toward the viewing bridge, and many of the court ladies in the background appear to be more engaged in gossip and serving duties than in the performance.
