Object Description
Black and white photograph by Edward Steichen of a life mask of Lincoln by Voss; signed by Carl Sandburg.

Note by Werner L. Janney, final editor of National Geographic:
"Made in the National Geographic photo labs from a negative photographed by Edward Steichen, brother-in-law of Carl Sandburg. From a life mask of Lincoln by Voss.

Autographed by Carl Sandburg for Werner Janney. I picked up Sandburg and brought him to work for a few days when he came to the [National] [G]eographic while we were working on an article by Sandburg about Lincoln, Oct., 1959. He signed his name 'as small as possible'--seemed embarrassed to link himself with Lincoln."
