Commentary
"Noh-men" (Noh Masks) - This shows the transformation of a beauty to a monster. This piece was printed by the artist.
With photography and silkscreen printing, the artist shows the types of noh masks that would be used in a play like “Dojoji.” The two masks at left and center show a young woman / waka-onna with pale skin and shaved eyebrows (replaced by cosmetic brows higher on the forehead), while the demonic / hannya mask is distorted by rage and hatred, with horns of anger and jealousy.
Marks
The artist's seal was embossed on the lower margin.
