Object Description
After 1900 Hassam turned increasingly to painting nudes in both indoor and outdoor settings. In The Model Disrobing, the subject appears both studied and casual. Characteristically for Hassam, the figure is simplified and clearly outlined against the background, in this case a close-cropped studio view. The dark palette, smooth brush, and almost academic character of this work provide an instructive contrast with his earlier paintings.
