Object Description
Unsigned caricature of Professor Richard Owen from the March 1, 1878 issue of Vanity Fair. The caption reads, "Old Bones," most likely in reference to Owen's work with vertebrate skeletons. He is well-known for coining the term "dinosaur," and for his stance against Darwin's theory of evolution. In 1856, he was appointed superintendent of the British Museum (Natural History), where he completely overhauled and expanded its collection.
