This is a well-executed figure in landscape in the style of the late 15th-early 16th century painter Wu Wei, but by a later follower of the late Ming period.
Professor Kathleen M. Ryor, Carleton College

Used in Bruce Coat's classes for comparison studies. Old number "L1136/72" is written in pencil on the backing paper. Listed in the Munthe inventory (p. 72) as "Emperor Shun carrying a plough. Ming, after a Sung model. Not by T'ung Kuan, as previously assigned (T'ung Kuan was a painter of battle scenes).

Marks
No signature or inscription. Twelve seals: most illegible; spurious seal of Gong Xian? Also looks like Qianlong emperor seal (or its fake) in the top center.

Professor Kathleen M. Ryor, Carleton College

There is a large round red ink seal stamped in the center of the upper edge of the image. Two small square red ink seals are stamped in the upper area of the right edge of the image. There are seven small, faded red ink seals stamped in the lower left area of the image, and one red ink seal stamped in the lower right corner of the image, which is completely illegible due to water damage.

Medium
Black ink brushed on silk, with a silk brocade border of light beige, with blue and pink embroidery.
