Object Description
Watanabe no Tsuna (953-1025), one of Minamoto Yorimitsu's four lieutenants (see also 93.6.45), volunteered to investigate strange appearances at Rashomon, the great gateway to Kyoto. There he encountered a beautiful but mysterious woman, who later turned into a demon. Her supernatural qualities are suggested here by the strange positioning of her feet, because as an ogress she would fly, not walk. Inset: Watanabe no Tsuna in battle as one of the the 'Four Heavenly Kings' (Shitenno).
