Commentary
One of a set of 20 small prints, "Yumeji Kohin Shu" ("Small Works by Yumeji") that belongs to the few documented small-sized woodblock prints by Yumeji Takehisa. The dreamy, fragile-looking girls Yumeiji invented in his works were so popular from 1900 to the 1930s that they became the cultural icon of the Taisho - early Showa era. Many artists imitated "Yumeji Look" to jump on the bandwagon of popularity. He has been considered to be the main figure who propelled "Taisho romanticism." Today, he is considered to be one of the most beloved artists in Japan. From: Artelino
