Commentary
This work is a portrayal of the character, "Aoi," from chapter 9 of "The Tale of Genji," that most iconic of Japanese novels. Written in teh Heian Period by Lady Murasaki-shikibu, the work chronicled the life of Prince Genji and those in his court. Countless Japanese stories, films, poems, paintings, theater, anime, etc., have been influenced by this classic. Censors: Kinugasa adn Murata
