Commentary
Amy Tan (1952–) is an American writer best known for her novels The Joy Luck Club (1989), The Kitchen God’s Wife (1991), and The Hundred Secret Senses (1995). Tan’s expressive and critically acclaimed works focus on the theme of relationships between Chinese immigrant mothers and their American born daughters. Her work has been adapted into plays and films. Childers photographed Tan at her home in Sausalito, a small city in the Marin Headlands north of San Francisco. Gillian Holzer SC19
