Commentary
Natalie Wood (1938–1981) was an icon of American cinema, gaining prominence in Miracle on 34th Street (1947) and true stardom at the age of 16 with James Dean in Rebel without a Cause (1955). She went on to star in West Side Story (1961) and over fifty other films before her premature death in an accident at the age of 43. Childers developed a close relationship with Wood over the course of her career, and photographed her many times in both personal and professional settings. Childers captured Wood on movie sets, at home as a young mother, and with her husband, fellow actor Robert Wagner. Seen here in her late thirties, Wood displays the timeless beauty that captivated audiences and film critics, her glamour and poise striking.
