Commentary
Old number "L1136/129" written in pencil on the backing paper. Listed in the Munthe inventory (p.129) as a "Good snow landscape after Wang Kien, the second of the Four Famous Wangs of the Ch'ing dynasty. Whether legend and signature are authentic must be determined through comparison with known specimens of his work." The inscription reads: "Where could you meet the famous scholar at this time of snow? There are thousands of plum blossom trees around the straw-thatched pavillion."

There are three lines of calligraphy followed by a square red ink seal in the upper right of the image.

Blue and white paint and black ink brushed onto silk, with an off-white silk brocade border.
Object Description
Mounted vertical scroll of a landscape, with trees spotted with white and houses within a vast landscape of mountains and water. Five figures on a bridge are depicted in the lower right of the image.
