The style of this painting looks like a genuine Yuan Yue work. A rare find. Yuan Yue was a very well-known professional painter working in the city of Yangzhou during the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

This large hanging scroll has an inscription, signature and date by the artist. Presumably the two seals next to the inscription belong to the artist.

Inscription:
A rivulet of rain and thick clouds at the base,
Leaving the forest, the fog drizzles like silent tears;
Sleeping luan bird, the moon in its fixed position,
Immortal’s fire X covers the gate.

Green X and red clouds around the house,
Cinnabar and stone marrow in the village;
In this world several cycles of sixty years,
In the cave, a single evening.

During the spring of the guiwei year, on the Han River Yuan Yao determined this meaning.

Black ink and faint colored paints on silk, with an off-white silk brocade mounting.

Vertical hanging scroll with an image of houses in a vast mountain landscape. A scholar is seen within his home in the lower center. There are several homes and travellers upon a path in the right of the image. A home with a person within and a cow outside is painted in the left.
