Zhu Lang was a student of Wen Zhengming (1470-1559) who worked as his teacher’s ghost painter. He specialized in the landscapes in the so-called blue and green style, like this scroll. There are very few extant attributions to Zhu Lang, so it is difficult to determine if this is an authentic work. The style looks very similar to that of followers of the 17th century painter Wang Hui and probably does not date later than the 18th century. A fine example of a major mode of landscape painting.
