Object Description
The house depicted is that of Catharine Maria Sedgwick (1789-1867) in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. She is an American novelist known for her works of domestic fiction.

Engraved by J. Kirk from an original sketch created for the book Homes of American Authors, published in 1853 by G.P. Putnam & Co.

From Homes of American Authors:
"A comfortable rural mansion, some fifty feet square, built without architectural adornments...The view is taken from the meadow below the south entrace of the house, and admits a few only of the trees that on every other side shelter and obscure it..."
