Object Description
This terracotta figure of the historical Buddha is seated in lotus position on a simple lotus throne with blue and green pigment applied over his robe. His robes are draped elegantly over his shoulder, with an urna (symbol of enlightenment) projecting from his head. The urna is covered in snail-like curls which is a defining physical characteristic of the historical Buddha. The figure appears to be deep in meditation with his eyes closed and his right hand resting on his knee, and his left palm facing upwards in his lap.
