Commentary
Rudy Autio has a very similar piece (as per Sam). "When Voulkos arrived at Otis in 1954, he was an accomplished production potter, who made elegant symmetrical forms, as seen in Vase, 1955....But in the spring of 1955 Voulkos's work began to move in an expressionist direction, in response to the art and ideas he had absorbed at Black Mountain and New York, as well as from exhibitions he saw in Los Angeles."
(Mary Davis MacNaughton, Revolution in Clay, 1994, pg. 58)
