Commentary
From the classic work of Japanese literature, "Tale of Genji." "Genji Monogatari" ("The Tale of Genji") was written by Lady Murasaki Shikibu in the Heian Period, and is considered to be a masterpiece of Japanese literature. The novel chronicles the life of Prince Genji and the people of his court. This story has proven to be a major influence on practically every aspect of Japanese culture over hundreds of years. This particular image depicts a scene from The Tale of Genji - Vol. 3, E-Awase Picture Competition, Ch. 17
