Commentary
From the series, "The Tale of Genji," this image, "Asagao," translates to "Morning Glory." The six works in volume ten include titles from "The Four Seasons of the Dynasty" by the poetess Saeko Ozaki. The volume was completed by the portrait of Murasaki Shikibu, the author of "The Tale of Genji," and a pheasant chick. "The Tale of Genji" was written by Lady Murasaki Shikibu in the Heian Period and is considered a masterpiece of Japanese literature. The novel chronicles the life of Prince Genji and the people of his court. This story has proven to be a major influence on practically every aspect of Japanese culture over hundreds of years.
