Commentary
Awaji Island is in the Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The Awaji traditional performing art, Awaji Ningyo Joruri is a type of puppet theater. It goes back over 500 years and is handed down throughout the generations in Awaji island. This work depicts a puppet from this type of theater.
