Object Description
An image from The Tale of Genji, with Genji and Murasaki in a dragon boat (a pleasure boat), sailing by another dragon boat on the lake. The image refers to the twenty-fourth chapter of the story, called "Butterfly." "One day in late March the garden of Murasaki-no-Uye was filled with the flowers of springtime and the song of small birds. On the lake floated a pleasure boat of Chinese fashion in which were found young lady's maids and musicians of the Court Music Department. Sweet music was being played without a break."
