Image of the dancer Ruth St. Denis modelling a dress by the Chicago-based designer Fortuny. As her popularity grew, St. Denis became a social icon, appearing in public as more than just a dancer. Fortuny took advantage of her exotic reputation to market his Egyptian-inspired dress.
