Object Description
Towering stands of bamboo both left and right, and the fences that run parallel to the bamboo, pull the eye back along a wide dirt path, to two figures on the right. The viewers' gaze meets that of an elderly woman, dressed in traditional Japanese clothing. Next to her stands an elderly man, also in traditional clothing. He holds a staff, she, a broom. Farther back and to the right of the path , two children, also dressed in the clothing of an earlier era, face the viewer. Another figure stands behind them, drawing the eye deeper into the composition.
