The compositional acumen Bing displays in Rocky Shoreline is typical of much of her work outdoors during the mid-to-late 1930s. Here, Bing makes full use of simple but effective framing to capture the best wide-angle view of the wind- and wave-swept outcropping. The dark, craggy features of the rock formations at left harmonize with the view of the cloudy sky and choppy sea that she has selected.
