Commentary
Many of Bravo's photographs depict her friendship with another famed Mexican woman artist: Frida Kahlo. While many artists have attempted to document Kahlo’s vivacious personality and distinctive appearance in snapshots, Alvarez Bravo has clearly succeeded in capturing her in a very serene and intimate moment that evokes Kahlo’s inner self. Kahlo is observed gazing off into the distance, perhaps even unaware of the camera’s presence. Kahlo’s relaxed demeanor highlights the depth of trust and friendship between the two artists.
