From an untitled series of Genji characters in half-length format, chapter 19, "Usugumo" ("Wisps of
Cloud").
The Tale of Genji is the master literature of the intrigue and human drama of the ancient Heian court
which has inspired numerous literature and art works in the subsequent generations. The novel was
historically enjoyed by the picture format of individual chapters accompanied with the texts.
