Object Description
Early ninteenth century Japanese color woodblock print depicting two women; one teaching another the serving of tea. From Steeped in History: The Art of Tea (pg.121):
"Toward the end of the Edo period, the number of women who practiced chanoyu [Japanese tea ceremony] seems to have increased. On an individual level, some women - often members of the families of wealthy merchants and farmers - began to learn the art of tea as a sophisticated form of entertainment."
