Object Description
Ninteenth century Japanese color woodblock print depicting fireworks at Ryogoku Bridge, Yedo, with a great rocket bursting in the sky in a shower of falling stars, and crowds on the bridge and in boats watching. (Dated Horse 8 = 8th month, 1858.) In the best and finest impressions (but very rare in this state), there should be a bright haze of light round the bursting rocket, and the sky black.... In ordinary impressions the sky is blue instead of black and there is no bright haze round the rocket, which greatly enhances the whole effect of the picture. (Basil Stewart, p.174-175)
