A globular ceramic jar, with a short rim. The jar is decorated with groups of incised lines, set closely together. The Ben Janssens Oriental Art website offers information on pieces of this kind: "Unglazed or glazed high-fired earthenware jars stamped with geometric pattrerns were adapted from earlier bronze pototypes and made in Zhejiang province at the end of the Warring States period (475-221 BC) and througout the Han dynasty. Combed patterns such as this have been found on pottery at Shangyu and Ningbo, both located in northern Zhejiang."

Storage jar, Zhejiang Province, China, Warring States period (475-221 BCE). Gray stoneware with impressed comb decoration. This high-fired clay jar, with its globular shape, broad foot, and wide mouth, as well as its overal pattern of an impressed design, is characteristic of wares produced in Zhejiang Province on China's eastern coast during the Warring States period. The shape has an appealing boldness and shows a crisp discipline in the stamped design, even with overlapping patterns and uneven spacing.
