Commentary
"Jumpin' at the Moon depicts a war of the gods. Pictured at the moment of supreme action, gods (armed with swords) and Africans (armed with spears) are locked in battle so intently that they are at a standstill and unable to continue fighting. Another panel features Santa Claus and Hitler, juxtaposed in acknowledgement of their common German heritage. A third panel has Superman interacting with a pair of monkeys. The lid (painted by a friend) is decorated with figures dancing around a 'moonlodge' symbolizing peace."
(Martha Drexler Lynn, Revolution in Clay, 1994, pg. 103)
