Object Description
Woodblock print from the series "Twelve Months of Noh Pictures" (J. Juni-ka-getsu Noh ga Suri). This print, depicting the Noh play "Miidera" (Mii Temple), is for the month of September. During the harvest moon festival, a mother finds herself by the famed belfry of the Mii Temple. Though the belfry is closed to female visitors, she strikes the bell, crazed with grief and searching for her lost son.
