Commentary
"Originally a painter, Prieto was more influenced by twentieth-century European abstract painting, specifically the surrealists, Joan Miro and Max Ernst, than by an Asian pottery aesthetic. The shape of his small-mouthed stoneware Bottle, 1959-1960, is secondary to the sgrafitto design, which is further emphasized by the contrast between the incised surface decoration and the thickness of the glaze." (Kay Koeninger, Revolution in Clay, 1994. pg. 20)
