A seventeenth century painting in the style of Lan Ying (1585-1664) and purporting to be an autograph works in the inscription.

On the fifteenth day of the seventh month of the wuyin year (1638), I sketched this for my friend, the gregarious Wenglao niantai, beneath the willows on the banks of Guangchuan. Diesou, Lan Ying.

Inscription top left by Shi Youjin

In Layered Peaks in Deep Autumn, Tianshu painted the mountain bridge that belongs to my Repaired Study. Tianshu imitated Jing Hao’s painting method on the banks of the Guang River for his friend Wenglaoniantai. Shi Youjin, Buwu, of Jinghu (near Shaoxing, Zhejiang) affixed this response and signed this.

Third inscription by Mao Jin (1599-1659)

This picture, Layered Peaks in Deep Autumn, was done by Lan Tianshu. Mr. Shi Buwu and he were both good friends with Chen Youting. These friends formed a poetry society and were extremely accomplished in calligraphy, painting, poetry and prosody; they were all equally famous at that time. Looking at this picture today, I inscribe several words. Reciting them, I fulfill the elegant destiny of brush and ink. Mao Jin notes this at the Imbibing Antiquity Pavilion.

There is another block of calligraphy, in a third hand, in the upper right of the image. Four large square red ink seals are stamped in the lower left of the image; two small and one large square red ink seals are stamped in the lower right of the image.

Mounted vertical scroll of a landscape dominated by pines and trees in blossom. There are three waterfalls in the image, which run down the right side vertically. The image is comprised of several levels, with houses portrayed on many of these levels. At the house in the lower right a scholar at a red desk can be seen. There are two travellers in the lower left (a man and woman).
