Commentary
Gyokusei was the daughter of Tsukioka Kogyo (1869-1927), noted for his noh theater prints, and the granddaughter of Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892), one of the most famous ukiyo-e artists of the 19th century. Few women had successful careers as printmakers; in the 1930s, Gyokusei was commissioned to create a deluxe limited edition set of noh prints.

Object Description
Color woodblock print of Noh theatre actors admiring bamboo in snow. Tsukioka Gyokusei was the daugher of the noh-ga master, Tsukioka Kogyo. She completed 30 noh-ga designs from the publisher Watanabe around 1938.
