On the work:
In her prints, Sherrie Wolf pays tribute to the 17th-century female Italian painter, Artemisia Gentileschi. She explores the relationship between seemingly unrelated objects: European classical paintings by Gentileschi and bowls of shapely fruit. Using non-traditional perspectives, Wolf creates her arrangements through color, formal compositional elements, and the notion of art’s elasticity. She places her creative addition in front of the historical paintings to signify her place in the lineage of female artists.
