Plum Blossoms, n. d.
Ink on Paper
51 3/4 in. x 12 5/8 in. (131.45 cm x 32.07 cm)
Old number "L1780/28" written in pencil on the backing paper.
The painting is signed Zheng Tao Po in the lower right. It is nicely painted, but darkened and damaged. The calligraphic work is by different famous Suzhou figures. The calligraphy at the top looks good, but the three pieces on the right look like they were done by the same hand. The work is probably a fake due to the similarity of the calligraphy.
Professor Peter Sturman, University of California, Santa Barbara
Zheng Tao Po in the lower right, with two square red ink seals. There is one rectangular red ink seal stamped in the lower left corner and one square red seal stamped in the lower right corner. There are seven blocks of calligraphy in the top half of the scroll. A vertical strip of brocade with written characters is afixed to the upper right corner on the backing.
Black ink brushed onto paper, with a light grey silk brocade border.
Mounted vertical scroll with plum blossoms and bamboo leaves in the lower portion, and calligraphy on the top.
