Object Description
Modern American Impressionist-style oil painting of a landscape in late September, with a grey sky and trees in changing colors.

Late September is remarkable for the wonderful haze of color Murphy uses to depict the autumn foliage and for the suffusion of golden light filling the canvas. Despite its ephermeral quality, there is a solidity to the ground - the result of extensive underpainting - that is characteristic of Murphy, who always maintains an equilibrium between realism and romanticism.
