Old number "L1136/153" written in pencil on the backing paper. Listed in the Munthe inventory (p.153) as "Good Ming landscape in colors, with Buddhist monks. Not by Kuo Hsin."
There is a square red ink seal stamped in the center of the top edge of the image, and a large round red ink seal is stamped to the left of this, near the left border. Three square red ink seals are stamped in the lower left edge, and two are stamped in the lower right edge. A signature is written along the left edge, 3/4 of the way down the image.
Blue and green paint and black ink brushed onto silk, with an off-white silk brocade border.
Narrow, vertical landscape with blue toned hills in a cascading diagonal pattern. There are two travellers pictured upon a path in the foreground (lower right of the picture plane), and two travellers on a bridge directly above this. A fifth figure is in the vertical center of the painting, to the right. He stands on the edge of a cliff, motioning to the left, but facing the right.
