Commentary
This is the depiction of a real crime, reported in the "Tokyo Nichinichi" newspaper. The bloody scenes and salacious, sensational stories were the favorite subjects of the audiences in the Meiji period. This one reports that a man called Sakan Seijuro stabbed the geisha Osasa of Komparu in the restaurant Tagoto and ran away.
