Terracotta bowl, slab formed and molded, with red, black, and orange paint on the interior center and red and black paint on the interior top edge.

Object Description
Slab and mold built earthenware bowl from the mid to late classical period (A.D. 550-950). The broadly flaring interior is painted with a fantastic figure in red and black on orange. There are red and black bands around the interior edge. The exterior is red in the upper area and unfinished on the lower area. The monstrous fish creature in the interior is a common way of representing the milky way/stars. The Mayan word for fish, which this appears to be a variation of, is a synonym for star.
