Commentary
One label which reads: "H0074".
Marks
No marks besides old label on the bottom.
Medium
Heavily burnished terracotta with a tan slip and a pattern of red bands on top with a line and dot pattern on the bottom. There are also circles and dots on most of the body in black. In addition, there are scribbled incisions all over the exterior, which were probably caused by tree roots growing around the object while it was buried or entombed.
Object Description
Pre-conquest Mayan terracotta cylindrical container with a burnished red, black, and cream slip painted decoration of glyphs and skulls-like objects that may be monkey heads, representing the first day of the Mayan year. The piece is decorated with a pattern of red bands and lines and dots on the top of the exterior, as well was circles and dots on most of the body in black. There are also scribbled lines all over the exterior.
