"[A] precursor of [Soldner's works in the 1980s and 1990s] is seen in Bottle with a Face (Sophia Loren), 1958-1959, in which Soldner pinched the neck and hit the side of the pot...The face on the pot, inspired by Sophia Loren and drawn in a loose, Picasso-esque manner, introduces the theme of the female figure, which re-emerges in the popular imagery of Soldner's later wall sculptures of the 1960s."
