Commentary
"Voulkos makes process and spontaneity visible in Sculpture, 1957, in which he stacks three, round, thrown forms, then alters them by cutting gaping holes and adding jagged protusions. The result is a strange, anthropomorphic form. The formal components of Sculpture - three separate, spliced-together sections with gouged surfaces - are the basic elements of Voulkos's later stack pots, a body of work which he continues to this day."
