Object Description
Color woodblock triptych of a scene from a kabuki play, possibly the play Seishu Akogi ga ura. In the middle panel, the ghost of Akogi is played by Kawarazaki Dantaro. In the right panel, the actor Kawarazaki Gonjuro (aka Ichikawa Danjuro IX, 1838-1903) plays a woman with a demon mask. In the left panel, Iwai Shijaku II (aka Iwai Hanshiro VIII, 1824-1882) plays a woman and Bando Hikosaburo (1832-1877) plays a man.
