Doubtful signature for Hokusai. According to Mr. Tim Clark of the British Museum, the signature and seal do not appear to be authentic and the image has “a very different, spiky line and much paler colouring compared to what he normally does."

Signature and red ink seal in the lower left.

Black ink and peach wash brushed on silk, with three different gold silk brocade fabrics composing the mounting. Backed with Japanese paper.

Object Description
Japanese vertical hanging scroll depicting two male travellers on a road within a landscape. The men wear hats and sandles. One is pointing up, the other is pointing to the right. The mountain in the background looks like Mt. Fuji.
