Commentary
Porcelain vase with images of five poets, five poems cards and Genji chapter symbols. Late 19th century, probably for export.

The poets are:
Woman – Ono no Komachi 小野小町
Man with green pants – Otomo no Kuronushi 大友黒主
Priest – Sojo Henjo 僧正遍昭
Man in red – Minamoto Shigeyuki 源重之
Man with bow – Ariwara no Narihira 在原業平

The poem cards emerging from behind their portraits are verses written by them. The Genji-ko are interspersed with flying cranes, hollyhock flowers and leaves, and clouds.
