Commentary
Prince Genji in a blue garment, depicted in the background at the left, reading love letters that were sent to him. He is sitting with friends. The "Tale of Genji" is a literary masterpiece, which tells of the intrigue and human drama in the ancient Heian court. This work inspired countless literary works and artworks in subsequent generations.
