Commentary
The Tosa School produced hundreds of such albums over 500 years when their "production line" studios painted works of both deluxe quality and "affordable" quality for a wide variety of patrons. The work in question falls into the second group, probably owned by a merchant family interested in "the classics" and not wanting a woodblock printed version, which were produced from the 1650s onward.
