Commentary
Ichikawa Danjuro IX is in the role of Yamagami Gennai Saemon (bottom) and prince of Suzuka (top). They are showing their strength by wrestling with an elephant. The work was created by Kiyotada Torii (1875-1941), with cooperating artist Kiyosada Torii (1844-1901). It bears both signatures.
